Based on the Three Beautiful Things project by Clare Law, I try to write about three pleasant things from my day.

3BT – super soft, lazy dinner, play!

1. Both my jeans and my sweatshirt are super soft.

2. I find a recipe that uses exactly the ingredients I have to hand, and cooks it all in one stage, in one oven tray. Perfect for a lazy (but tasty, and fairly healthy) dinner for one!

3. I pick up the weighted string and cats immediately appear, ready to play. I dangle it while I’m chatting on the phone and they – Strange and Tilda – play with it like they did as kittens.

3BT – beck, covered, look up/asleeping

1. I can hear the beck roaring and when I look out of the bedroom window, I can see the gushing water for the first time since spring. The leaves dropped in the garden and I barely noticed until now.

2. The little peculiar hill just beyond the walled walkway is covered in uniformly russet leaves.

3. The talk itself is rather all over the place and rather disappointing but the hall is fantastic. My favourite part is the curved plasterwork above the windows.

3b. We’re worried she’ll have been barking for the last hour but when we arrive back at the house, we look through the window and see she is fast asleep on the kitchen floor.

3BT – up to task, prepared, winning

1. Painkillers doing their job.

2. I don’t do it that often (I’m more chop-as-I-go person) but I like it when I prepare ingredients like on cooking programmes. Slices of veg arranged on a plate then tipped into the hot wok.

3. Cat on knee. Game of Thrones on the TV. Crochet in hand.

3BT – cat activities, fabric, hide it first please, in the dark

1. A big hug with my Kaufman boy at my desk. A Tilda dancing around me as I hang out the washing. Strange watching me play Mario while her big sister Lily chews a bone right next to her.

2. The moment the fabric starts to appear from the lengths of yarn. The edges are a little saggy at the moment but in the middle it’s lovely.

3. She almost takes the Bonio – lets her teeth just graze it – but no. Where would be the fun in that?

4. A relaxing shower in the dark.

3BT – busy park/LARPers, history repeating/looks, piled high

1. John wants to pop into Leeds to buy a new amplifier – Lily and I tag along and we go for a walk in Meanwood Park/woods. The park is very busy with dogs everywhere – I like it more than Lily, though she doesn’t get harassed too much.

1b. A group of LARPers are gathered in the car park before the commencement of their activities. A small child looks at them with fascination.

2. The afternoon feels like one from a few years ago – a fine winter’s day, our walk behind us, enjoying music and the stove, with bellies full of cream cakes. I don’t mind this type of history repeating itself.

2b. Lily gives me a “wtf!? Seriously, wtf!?” look when John perches on the edge of her seat. Later she gives me her “I don’t know if you know” look when she thinks it’s her dinner time (but it isn’t because of the clocks changing).

3. Plates piled high with colourful vegetables.

3BT – breakfast, red tree/99% Invisible, comfortable

1. We wake up late but John declares we’re having bacon and egg muffins for breakfast anyway and heads out to buy supplies. They’re very good.

2. A red tree stands out amongst the green and yellow.

2b. I listen to a new(to-me) podcast 99% Invisible and enjoy it very much – I love learning about the history of every day things.

3. To find a truly comfortable angle snuggled into John as we watch the film.
