There is an awful lot of waffle on this blog. I totally understand if you don’t want to wade through it all to find the good stuff.
These are some of my favourites. They still include a lot of waffle but it’s a better quality of waffle :)
Three Beautiful Things
I very much enjoy using Clare Law’s fantastic journal model: it helps me focus on slowly down, looking around and being positive.
There are over 1000 posts in the full archive but these are some of my very favourites:
Remembering
- My goodbye posts to Carla, Carbon & Boron. And some photos of Silicon in her last weeks.
- My goodbye post and list of 100 nicknames for Lily-dog.
- Remembrance of biscuits past: 25 years in the life of a biscuit eater
- My life, so far, in video games – that’s the written account but I’ve also put the same data in a venn diagram
- The last time I vomited (spoiler: it was in 1996 and was quite grotesquely spectacular)
- 10 years ago about my 18th birthday
- Then and Now, comparing the changes in my life between 2000 and 2010
- A letter to my 16 year old self, from 34 year old me
- Thoughts and observations of a nearly 35 year old
- Another letter, this time to my 36 year old self
- Biodata: All the places I’ve spent the night
Reading & Writing
- Some book reviews: “American Wife” by Curtis Sittenfeld, “The Road” by Cormac McCarthy, The Interestings by Meg Wolitzer, Ghost World by Daniel Clowes, Time’s Arrow by Martin Amis and Childhood’s End by Arthur C Clark. I also re-read a number of Douglas Coupland’s earlier works – books that coloured my life as a young adult – and reviewed them from a new vantage point. (More book reviews…)
- Embryonic mornings – a writing exercise about waking up
- Search Terms – a list of some of my disparate search terms for NaNoWriMo in 2011 & 2012
Making
I’ve made lots of things over the last few years but blogged about shockingly few of them on here. A few things though:
- A long stitch rendering of our old house
- My “makes for 2013” mega-list
- My Team Peach cross-stitch
- Ceramics Jan-June 2014
- Learning about Raku (ceramics)
- (More things I’ve made…)
Overheards, Funnies & Odd Stuff
A number of short posts that about the world around me and glimpses into how my brain works:
- Three Louisa moments from the day
- Things I’ve realised since getting a dog
- Handles
- A moment saved
- My Saturday afternoon
- Overheard on the bus
- Another overheard on the bus
- Five things I’d do if I could stop time
- Frustration, two poems about our old postman, written in IM
- Limerick, another poem written in IM
